Q. For what unusual reason is Bholi sent to school?

Context :

This question has been taken from the chapter Bholi included in the NCERT Class-10 notebook. It is a story of the life and struggle of a simple girl Bholi. This story portrays that how the character of Bholi develops from being a simpleton to an educated individual over the course of time and under the proper guidance of her teacher. This story was written by an indian novelist, journalist and film director Khwaja Ahmad Abbas (K. A. Abbas).

Q. For what unusual reason is Bholi sent to school?

Answer :
As Ramlal was a government official, any act done by him would present a precedence for the village. Hence, Tehsildar asked Ramlal to send his daughters to the new school in his village so that others can follow as well. That's why Bholi was sent to school just to satisfy the Tehsildar. Ramlal's wife did not want to send any of her daughters to school as it could affect their marriage prospects. However they thought that it would not be possible for Bholi, with her pock-marked face and dull brain, to get married anyway, so Bholi’s parents decided to send her to school to satisfy the Tehsildar.
