Phonetics & Phonology in Linguistics Phonetics :- Phonetics is a branch of linguistics which is concerned with the production of speech sounds by humans. As a science, it also deals with the articulation, description, classification and production of speech sounds.  Morph, Morpheme & Allomorph  Morph, Morpheme and Allomorph are the units of a Language that are studied under Morphology, a branch of linguistics. Morphology is the field of linguistics focused on the study of the forms and the formation of words in a language including their inflection, derivation and composition. It is the study of the smallest grammatical unit of a language. These basic elements are technically known as morphemes. Let's now discuss what a Morpheme is: Morpheme : Morpheme is the smallest indivisible unit having meaningful content and grammatical function. According to George Yule- a morpheme is a minimal unit of meaning or grammatical function. Organs of speech Speech Organs Introduction: Organs of Speech :- The use of spoken language involves a complicated series of operations. The concept in the speaker's brain is given a linguistic form, which is communicated by the nerves to the speech organs. As a result of the movement of these speech organs, some disturbances are set up in the air and sound waves are emerged. These sound waves are received by the listener's ear. And listener's mind interpret these waves into a meaningful words and the process of speech is completed.  Thus with the help of some organs the speech is produced and these organs are called the organs of speech.  Now, we can give the definition of the Organs of Speech as follows:    "the organs which are involved in the production of speech are called organs of speech." Synchronic and diachronic linguistics (Approaches to study of language)

Image
Synchronic and diachronic linguistics (Approaches to study of language) General Introduction:- In linguistics there has developed two approaches to the study of a language. These two approaches are synchronic and diachronic. The former concept was theorised by a Swiss linguist Ferdinand de Saussure in his work Course in general linguistics which was published posthumously in 1916. Before him linguists used to mainly focus on the study of historical evolution of languages. Saussure gave primacy to the study of a language at its state especially in the present . Synchronic Linguistics:- Synchronic linguistics, also known as descriptive or general linguistics, is the analytical study of a language at a particular time, usually at its present form. However the study of a language at any point in past also falls under this but that study should be only of a state of language at that point of time. It means it studies the language at a particular period without any reference to its earlier o...
